All star cheerleading is very different from high school cheerleading, that most people are use to. Instead of cheering for football teams, basketball, ect. you compete against other cheer teams. You have a routine and you have to have a certain amount of things. Each level is different, based on skill. Every routine must have jumps, stunts, tumbling, and a dance. All routines start out with an opening, this is usually when you do standing tumbling and anything unique. Routines don't have an order, your coaches can make it how ever they want it. For jumps you usually need at least 3-5 jumps in a row following with a skill. For stunts theres an opening stunt which is the first set of stunts you have. You also have a pyramid, this is when all the stunts come together and do a whole bunch of flips and are usually connected to eachother depending on what level. Another stunt you do is basket tosses, when the bases throw there flyer up in the air and they do a skill. For tumbling theres 2 different kinds, standing tumbling and running tumblig. For standing tumbling you start out with backhandsprings (depending what level you are) and finish it in a skill. For running tumbling you run into a round-off and finish it with different skills. Lastly we have the dance, the dance occirs at the end of a routine. This is where everyone gets pumped up and shows off.
There are 5 different levels, level one being the lowest to level five being the highest. Theres also local teams and rec teams. These are for beginers or people that dont want to do a travel team. For level one you cant do as much for tumbling, they can do, back walkovers, round-offs, forward rolls, and front walkovers. Stunting they can only go to a prep or thigh stand, and can cradle from it. Also the basket tosses they can only do a straight ride. Level two tumbling you can do all the level one things but, you can do backhandsprings. Level two stunting you can go to one leg at prep and go fully extended but on two legs and craddle. They can also do "fake" tick -tocks. For there jumps they can add a back handspring, but have to pause then do it.For basket tosses they can only do a straight ride still. Level three tumbling you can do punch fronts, and in running tumbling you can add a back tuck at the end. For stunts you have to be fully extended the whole time and on one foot. When there on one leg they can only craddle, but on 2 legs they can full down. You can also do "fake" tick-tocks but fully extended. For basket tosses they can do one twist. For jumps they have to add two back handsprings after without pausing. Level 4 tumbling you have to do layouts after a tumbling pass, also you can do standing back tucks. Stunting you can double from two legs and only single from one leg. They can do power press tick-tocks also. Basket tosses you can either to a kick full or a double. For jumps you have to do a bac handspring back tuck after. Now level 5, for tumbling you can do fulls, doubles, arabians, and kick fulls. For jumps you have to do a back tuck after. In stunts you have to stay on one foot and can double down from everything. Also for full-ups you have to go to one leg and you can do ball ups and high-to-high tick tocks. For basket tosses you have to do kick doubles or hitch-kick doubles. Level 5 is the only level that can go to worlds.
